Berrien Primary School Berrien Primary School houses grades Pre-K through second. There are approximately 862 students who receive academic instruction, music, physical education, and regular access to computer labs and a well-equipped media center. Classworks BPS utilizes Classworks and CRCT On-line, both web-based assessment and prescriptive programs, to help teachers guide instruction based on student's needs. The Early Intervention Program, After School/Summer Program, ESOL, Special Education Program with co-teaching, and Gifted Program serve at risk students or students with special needs. Berrien Primary School also has a literacy coach who provides assistance to the teachers as well as oversees the implementation of Learning Focused Strategies. Berrien Primary School has made AYP for the past 10 years and has also been recognized as a Title I Distinguished School for the past 10 years. BPS has implemented the LIPS program and kindergarten classrooms and will significantly expand the use of the program for the 09-10 school year. Berrien Primary School is in a new school building which was opened July 2009. The new school is equipped with state-of-the-art technology (ex.Smartboards) in each classroom. | Berrien Elementary School  New Elementary School Berrien Elementary School has approximately 693 students in grades three through five. Third and fourth grade students are served in self-contained classrooms while fifth grade students change classes for each academic subject. In addition to academic instruction, students receive art, music, and physical education. Berrien Elementary School has two fully equipped computer labs and a media center. Students are scheduled once a week in each computer lab. Berrien Elementary also implemented the innovative web-based instructional and assessment program Classworks (2005) and also utilizes the CRCT On-line Assessment software through the GA Department of Education. Data is utilized to guide instruction based on the students needs. At risk students or special needs students are served through the Early Intervention Program, ESOL, Gifted Education, After School/Summer School Program, or Special Education Program using the co-teaching model of instruction. There are approximately 717 students who receive academic instruction, chorus, band, physical education, art, family and consumer science, computer skills, and regular access to computer labs where they can practice their computer skills. Berrien Middle School also has a well equipped media center. Classworks is a computer program that generates learning pathways specifically designed for individual students to promote academic achievement. Teachers use the results of pretests to design instruction with the results of the posttests used to identify students needing remediation, enrichment, and acceleration. The English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program has been implemented to provide services for identified students. A teacher of the gifted provides gifted students a differentiated curriculum through a collaborative delivery model. These students are challenged in a variety of content areas. Students with disabilities (SWD) receive services in the general education and the special education classrooms. Services may include co-teaching, supportive instruction, small group and individual instruction and consultation. After school and summer school programs are offered to all students with transportation provided for both of these programs. An academic coach provides support to teachers, models effective teaching strategies and assists teachers with such activities as planning differentiating instruction and progress monitoring. | Berrien High School Berrien High School (BHS) has approximately 865 students in grades nine through twelve. Berrien High School is staffed by highly qualified professionals and offers a variety of opportunities for students. The addition of a graduation coach and an academic coach has benefited Berrien High School by increasing both test scores and graduation rates. Berrien High has increased Advanced Placement (AP) classes by adding three AP art classes and an AP Physics class. Honors classes are offered to students who excel academically. These classes are taught by gifted endorsed teachers and advanced placement certified teachers. Gifted services are provided through a differentiated curriculum by a gifted certified teacher in a collabrorative delivery model. Students with disabilities (SWD) are served primarily in regular classrooms, with the support of additional teachers in the classroom. Other services for students with disabilities include supportive instruction, small group and individual instruction, and consultation. After school and summer programs are offered to all students, as well as course repair and credit recovery for studetns who had difficult circumstances during the semester. Berrien High School is a Learning Focused School that emphasizes student learning and student success. Berrien High School offers students a wide variety of opportunities both inside the classrom and out. Berrien High offers a full compliment of athletic and club opportunities for students. The Career Technical Agriculture Education (CTAE) program at Berrien High School enhances classroom instruction through relevance and enrichment. The CTAE program at Berrien High is known and respected throughout the state, winning both state and national competitions. Berrien High School strives to offer quality opportunities to make students successful in whatever they choose to do. Berrien Academy Berrien Academy is a public charter school serving 75 students in grades 9-12. The school is a partnership between the Berrien County School System and the Berrien County Collaborative. The school opened in the fall of 2005 with the express purpose of lowering the dropout rate and raising the graduation rate. Class sizes are limited by the charter to a 15:1 student: teacher ratio. This small classroom setting allows teachers more opportunity for individualized instruction with struggling students. Students work on computer guided curriculum as well as hands on projects. Students also have the opportunity to take college level courses through Valdosta Technical College. Students are also afforded the option of working after school in the extended day program offered Monday through Thursday. The students of Berrien Academy have worked with organizations within the community to create a garden and to work on a water quality project. The school was awarded an AT&T grant to improve our technology and elective offerings. This grant has already allowed the school to place Smart Boards in every classroom. The teachers at Berrien Academy are all highly qualified with all but one holding a graduate degree. Georgia's Secretary of Education awarded Berrien Academy with a Distinguished School Award for being one of the top ten schools in raising test scores for the Algebra End of Course Test. |
